‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ begins movie trilogy

‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ begins a heartwarming movie series that is perfect for the Valentine’s Day season.
The first film stars Lana Condor as Lara Jean Covey, Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky, Janel Parrish as Margot, and Anna Cathcart as Kitty. All the movies are based on Jenny Han’s novels by the same names.
Shy and quiet Lara Jean writes love letters to boys she has crushes on, but she never sends them.  Her life changes when one night, Kitty, her sister, goes into her room and sends all the letters out to the boys.
The following day at school, Peter, one of the boys she had written a letter to, confronts Lara Jean about the letter, causing her to pass out. When she wakes up, she sees another ex-crush approaching her, so she decides to kiss Peter to avoid the other boy.
Peter and Lara Jean decide that they should fake date to make Peter’s ex-girlfriend jealous.
This coming of age movie has themes of friendship, love, and sisterhood. The movie is realistic and feels like a fairy tale all at the same time. The chemistry between Lara Jean and Peter is fantastic, making you want to smile.
This first movie of the trilogy captures the viewer’s attention through the romantic storyline and believable characters.
The second movie, called To All the Boys: P.S I Still Love You was released in 2020. Lara Jean goes to a volunteer program for school, where she discovers John, another one of the boys she had written a letter to, is working at the program, too. Lara Jean has conflicts between Peter and John throughout the movie.
There is a third movie called To All the Boys: Always and Forever that was released in 2021.  It is senior year, and Peter and Lara Jean want to go to college together. They both apply to Stanford, but only Peter gets in. After a school trip to New York City, Lara Jean realizes that she wants to move there. The couple must decide what they want to do for the future.
While no fourth movie has formally be announced, the end of the third movie leaves things open-ended with the possibility of further story.
All of these movies would be great to watch on Valentine’s Day with a significant other or friends.
If you enjoyed these movies, Netflix created a spin off series called XO Kitty starring Anna Cathcart as Kitty, Lana Jean’s sister. Viewers can watch Kitty experience a new school in Korea.
