In just four years, two months, and 27 days, new religion teacher Julian Maliszewski, class of ’06, collected his JC diploma, received a college education and returned to become the sixteenth current alumni faculty member.
Maliszewski double majored in philosophy and religious studies at Cabrini College in Pennsylvania, where he graduated this past spring. He jokingly explained his rather swift return to JC, saying he is “slowly trying to take over the school, one subject at a time.” For now, however, his takeover has been limited to a few Church History sections.
Even though Maliszewski has only been gone for four years, he’s taken a notice and a liking to the changes. “Everyone’s got computers, and it’s adapting, so it works. I agree with the whole trying to go green thing as well,” Maliszewski said.
Outside the classroom, Maliszewski is the new varsity men’s volleyball coach. “I actually had the volleyball job before teaching,” he said. Maliszewski played volleyball for JC and earned the First Team All-Harford County honors during his senior season in 2005. He continued his volleyball career after John Carroll, playing on a competitive club team in college.
As a Patriot, Maliszewski also played lacrosse and served as co-captain of the team during his senior year. Although he doesn’t plan on becoming involved in the JC lacrosse program this year, he plans to extend his own playing career. “This summer, I played semi-pro [lacrosse] in Canada. I lived in British Columbia for two months,” Maliszewski said.
He also participated in the National Lacrosse League Combine Competition in Wayne, New Jersey on August 28-29. The competition featured scrimmages and an invitational tournament with spectators including scouts for professional teams, according to NLLInsider.com. Lastly, Maliszewski plans to participate in the U.S. National Indoor team tryouts this weekend also in Wayne, NJ.
