John Carroll’s Rock Band Director Gregory Russell has helped the rock band to achieve ultimate success. The band has done three tours this school year. The rock band doesn’t just perform at shows; they also help with many other school-wide activities. They play at Mass and the winter and spring concerts.
Mr. Russell commented, “They were awesome.” Mr. Russell himself plays the guitar, bass guitar, and a little bit of drums.
The students in the rock band this year were guitarist Caden Daubach, guitarist Gabriel Olszyk, guitarist Christian Thompson, bass guitarist Dan Graber, keyboard Camille Sergeon, vocalist Micheal Coale, and drummer Andrew Cox.
Christian said, “Being able to play with the rock band is an amazing time, and it’s so fun to display songs we’ve spent a long time practicing. Playing with everyone in the band is a cool experience and has been a great part of high school.”
The rock band practiced after school every B, D, F, and H days. The practice lasted from dismissal to 3:40.
Gabriel said his favorite thing about being in the band is “how it makes me enjoy learning new music.”
Gabriel added, “I’ve been able to meet new people, and I’m really involved with music.” He added that he would do it in college if it was offered.
Dan said, “The rock band has allowed me to express my creativity and just be able to play with a group of people who also want to play rock music with me.” Lastly, in regard as to whether or not Dan would continue doing rock band after high school and he said,” Most definitely. Rocks is not the only music I do, I really like all forms and just enjoy playing it outside of school.”
