Patriots Week will celebrate what it means to be a John Carroll Patriot

In the past, John Carroll students and alumni celebrated Patriots Day on one single day. This year, past and present students will be celebrating for an entire week.

Director of the Fund for John Carroll Alyson Shiflett said, “Patriots Week stemmed from Patriots Day in that we wanted to continue the celebration all week long… Similar to Catholic Schools Week, this will be a week of activities for the whole school to participate in to celebrate what it means to be a Patriot, and also for our alumni and their families to connect back with John Carroll during the week, as well.”
Patriots Week will be held the week of April 25, and there will be different events every day.
On Monday, there will be John Carroll’s first ever JC’s Got Talent.
Tuesday will be Patriots Day. Students will have a lunchtime cookout on Miller Way; Patriot Grams will be available, and there will be games on the turf.
Wednesday has been dubbed “Wellness Wednesday.” Mr. Jake Hollin and Mr. Kenneth Goedeke will be hosting a series of events throughout the day. These events will include yoga, creative coping, a food and nutrition seminar, and a service activity. There is also a Wellness Walk being planned for after school that day.
Thursday is “Throwback Thursday,” and although plans for this day have not yet been confirmed, Mrs. Roarty, Mrs. Boniface, and some members of the SGA will be taking charge.
Patriots Week will be concluded on Friday with a Mass where administration will be presenting Alumni Awards. There will be a special reception for these winners.
Mrs. Shiflett added, “We also have week-long activities planned that will take place during Advisory, and it will be our Shopping and Dining Out Week hosted by the Alumni Association. We will be promoting Patriot-owned restaurants and businesses for our alumni and families to visit during the week!”
John Carroll talks about how the school is very much like a family, and that is the goal of Patriots Week.
Mrs. Shiflett said, “Students at John Carroll belong to a really special, and strongly-bonded community… We have alumni across the country—across the world, even—doing really amazing things. The four years we spend at John Carroll as students are only the beginning… I hope that students feel that support during Patriots Week and create an abundance of special memories celebrating John Carroll that they can look back on many years from now.”
Patriots Week is being planned by a committee of students, faculty, and staff. A group has been meeting weekly to plan the events.
