John Carroll students, faculty, and teachers participated in various different dress-down themed days and special activities in the school community during the week of October 17.

Before the week even began, representatives from the individual classes painted the windows outside of the courtyard.

On Monday, students embraced their inner country or country club spirit for the dress-down day and gathered together on their advisory floors for an Advisory Hallway Block Party with all of their favorite friends and teachers.

On Tuesday, students dressed from head-to-toe in white, red, blue, or green depending on their class color, and the juniors and seniors played against each other in a Powderpuff game that ended in a 28-14 senior win.

On Wednesday, students revved their engines and caught some big waves and rode through the bikers and surfers dress-down day. During lunch, there was also a courtyard cookout with hot dogs, chips, cookies, hamburgers, and water. Students also played games in the gym.

On Thursday, October 20, nobody acted their ages as freshmen dressed up as babies and toddlers, sophomores as teenagers, juniors as middle-aged adults, and seniors as senior citizens. All the classes had the opportunity to search for the ring in the Ring Hunt and watch the teachers beat the Academic Team in the annual Quiz Bowl.

On Friday, students exhibited their Patriot Pride and wore black and gold throughout the school day. The pep rally was held at the end of the day. Classes sat together on the bleachers to show school spirit and watch some friendly competitions between the students such as tug-of-war, relay races, and basketball dunk. Finally, fans went wild as the JC football team defeated St. Paul’s School in the Homecoming Game.

The week ended in a fabulous Hollywood Glam themed dance that featured snacks, waters, a DJ, and many students and teachers singing, dancing, and enjoying each other’s company.

The JC student body had a wonderful time during Spirit Week, and so much effort and time was placed into making this week special for everybody.

SGA Co-Moderator Anthony Davidson explained that the planning process for the Homecoming Spirit Week was difficult but rewarding. Dr. Davidson said, “The most difficult activity to organize during Spirit Week was the Quiz Bowl; however, we were very fortunate to have people who worked with us during the various dates.”

However, he also commented, “The most rewarding part of the Homecoming planning process was watching the pep rally occur without any problems and seeing the students having a fun time.”

Regarding the dance specifically, Dr. Davidson said, “Organizing tickets and decorating the school was the most difficult part of preparing for the Homecoming Dance.”

Junior Drew Kelly said, “The Homecoming dance was a lot better than I expected. I had a lot of fun, and I enjoyed spending time with friends.”

Senior Zac Dickens also said, “The dance was great this year, and a lot of people showed up.”

Senior Flora Lau said, “It was really fun, and I am very happy I decided to go.”
