As the school year began to close, the senior class received their yearbooks on May 16 on their final day of school, and the remaining students received their yearbooks on May 20.
This was a special year for The Pacificus, JC’s yearbook as it marked the 60th anniversary of the opening of John Carroll.
Yearbook Moderator Shannon Olsen said, “Because it is the 60th anniversary, we decided to add a nod to the past of the 60 years of our school’s history.”
The theme of this year is “Back to the Beginning” and Ms. Olsen said this theme connects to where the school is today and how the JC community has progressed since the opening in 1964.
“We have our traditional Athletics, Student Life, and Academic sections, which showcase the events and parts of the school year,” said Ms. Olsen. There will also be an ‘Our People’ section with each student’s photo and the senior sections with all the parent commemorative ads.
There are no new sections, “but we have added little flashbacks throughout that highlight the last 60 years of our school,” said Ms. Olsen.
Co-Editor-in-Chief Nelia Kelleher said that the hardest part of the yearbook this year was making sure the layout of the senior superlatives as well as their pictures fit.
Junior Editor Peyton Ey has been a member of the staff since her sophomore year, and this year, she said the most difficult part was collectively agreeing on a theme.
The process of assembling the yearbook took the entire staff. Peyton explained that the Senior Editors started with assigning pages to the staff based on who is involved in the various sports, clubs, and activities around JC.
After the first deadline passed, “editors went through each section and checked for any errors and or more information to make that section stand out,” Peyton said. Once this was done, Junior Editors Peyton Ey and Ella Jantz then went through the entire yearbook. The Senior Editors did a third review after they were done, and finally, Ms. Olsen completed the final review.
Once these sections were submitted, they started the next section. Focus on sections of the yearbook are prioritized in a way that aligns very closely to event dates and were edited and published during that time period. This ensures that sections are detailed and completed in a timely manner, working toward final publication.
Co-Editor in Chief, Mia Castellano said, “My message to the yearbook staff as I graduate is to go outside your comfort zone. Be bold because high school flies by quickly, so make all the memories you can.”
