JC should have more outerware options

Nathan McClung, Staff Writer

The current state of outerwear in John Carroll is very dull and boring compared to other schools.

John Carroll could greatly benefit from more options of outerwear choices such as hoodies and jackets. Other schools utilize outerwear to make students feel more comfortable during school hours.

It seems as if students in our school have very few options for outerwear. Options mainly include a specific JC sweatshirt or a sports coat. The current sweatshirt and sports coat options are professional, going along with the professional standard that our school sets for the students.

However, it does not bring a lot of comfort for students, especially when in the winter when male students need to wear several pieces of constrictive clothing such as button-down shirts, a tie, and an undershirt.

More diverse outwear options available to students would make things a lot easier on the school deans, as well as the students themselves.

The reason new outerwear options could “lighten the load” on students and deans is because many students get warnings or write ups for not wearing school-mandated outerwear. This leads to meetings with one of the Deans of Students — something most students will agree is something that they would rather avoid if possible.

It would be a welcome change if options for new outerwear would be any JC merchandise such as hoodies, windbreakers, and jackets. These options should be available since they are related to the school itself and have no offensive imagery or wording on them that could be considered inappropriate.

Adding more options to student outerwear should be considered so that students will be more comfortable.
