Campitelli looks toward next step in field hocker career

Ella McGuire, Sports Editor

For Senior Emma Campatelli, field hockey was a path set in stone. Emma was very young when she first stepped onto the field, following in her inspiration’s footsteps.

Emma said, “I started playing field hockey when I was three. My very first experience was Alice Puckett’s camp.” Alice Puckett was John Carroll’s field hockey coach for four years, and she created a summer camp.
Emma’s inspiration to start playing field hockey was her mom. Emma said, “She has coached me pretty much my whole life. She played in high school at C. Milton Wright, and went to play at Longwood University.” Emma’s mom also plays a big role in her current field hockey career. When not sprinting on John Carroll’s field, one can see Emma playing club field hockey, a club team owned by her mother.
Besides playing on John Carroll’s women’s varsity field hockey team, Emma plays club year-round for RECON Field Hockey Club.
In fact, Emma said, “RECON Field Hockey Club is also owned by my mom!”
Emma will be going on to play field hockey at Susquehanna University in the fall. When off the field, Emma will be pursuing a career in law and plans to attend law school after college.
Emma is faced with challenges between field hockey and school life. She said, “The only challenges I face during hockey season is making sure I maintain good grades and keeping up with all of my responsibilities.”
However, Emma knows how to deal with these challenges, and she thrives. “I cope with them by using my time management skills and always taking care of my responsibilities first.”
When she isn’t showing her skills on the field, Emma is hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and going shopping.
Emma shared strong words of wisdom for JC’s student-athletes. She said, “Advice I have for student-athletes is to always work hard, have good sportsmanship, and always put school first.”
Emma is excited to start the next chapter of her life at Susquehanna University.
