Senior Emily Nelson is heading into her last year playing soccer for John Carroll. She has been playing all four years of high school and started when she was just five-years-old. She is not sure if she is playing in college.

Emily’s biggest inspiration for playing is her family. She said, “They always push, whether in sports or academics.” She also plays multiple sports, so she does not play soccer outside of school.

Emily is a goalie, which means she is always running the defense. She said that “soccer means working hard, having a good mindset, and efficient communication.” The team knows Emily as a leader, and everyone respects her.

Forward Ella Steck said, “Emily is a very hard-working goalie. She’s a leader on and off the field and always knows how to pick the team’s head up when we need it. She’s so responsible and an amazing teammate”

Emily’s favorite part about soccer is game days. She especially loves when the team has a lot of energy, and everyone gets pumped up for game-time. However, playing so many sports, Emily’s biggest challenge is time management. She said “having to balance school, soccer, and clubs is not always the easiest.”

Outside of soccer, Emily likes to take her dog on walks, hike, and cook. She stays active and participates in a lot of school events.

She is excited for this season and for what is in store for the rest of the team.
