Following the end of the school year and the retirement of Mrs. Tess Gauthier, the head coaching job as a field hockey coach opened. New Health Teacher Baily Kerr was offered the job and took it because she was drawn to JC’s mission to really involve and value every student.
Coach Kerr is a graduate of Towson University where she studied Psychology and Health Science.
She received her bachelor’s degree in science.  Additionally, she was on the field hockey team at Towson for all four years.
Directly after college, Coach Kerr worked at Sheppard Pratt in Towson, where she worked one-on-one with people with psychiatric disorders.
After that she started gearing from mental health to health as a whole and worked a little bit in the nutrition field.
Following that she participated in a year long study in holistic health and integrated nutrition and became a certified nutrition specialist/health coach.
Before coming to JC to coach field hockey, she coached at C Milton Wright High School in Bel Air. She also spends some of her time coaching a club field hockey team named H2O.
Coming in as the new head coach at JC, Coach Kerr said, “My goal this year is to create a foundation of a team, building a good culture and team atmosphere that can carry on for years to come.”
Upperclassmen have been a major part in Coach Kerr’s transition as the new head coach.
She said that they have made her transition very smooth, mentioning that they offer her school experience because of her being new to the school.
Becoming a new head coach also comes with much excitement. Coach Kerr said, “I’m most excited to see how we as a team form, with the change in culture and atmosphere.”
She also mentioned that she’s excited to see how the team will grow over the season to the end of the season.
