Junior Sebastian Cole attends his matches and practices with a constant positive attitude and magnetic energy.
During Sebastian’s time playing on the tennis courts, he maintains a steady and calm pace. However, in the classroom, he exceeds the standards and limitations of his teachers through his dedication.
Sebastian is the perfect example of a well-rounded athlete who also succeeds in the classroom. He proves this by taking difficult courses, such as AP US History. Sebastian’s perseverance on and off the court is what makes him a remarkable player and student.
Sebastian has been a crucial member of the JC community through the tennis team and playing for the varsity soccer team. He maintains a busy schedule inside and outside the classroom as he enjoys golfing and mountain biking outside school hours.
While Sebastian has the right spirit of a strong student-athlete, this doesn’t mean he doesn’t face challenges. He said, “One challenge I have had to overcome is the consistency of my game. I haven’t been playing tennis for that long, and being consistent has been a problem for me. It is still a challenge every day to be consistent, but I have been working at it every day to make myself better.”
Despite obstacles, Sebastian shares many core memories and moments with his fellow teammates. He shares that this sport allowed him to grow closer to people that he would not have known had it not been for playing tennis. These friendships he has made helped him maintain a positive attitude and outlook on the game, even during his toughest matches.
A piece of advice Sebastian said that has stuck with him is: “tennis is just a game, and you are meant to have fun while playing.”
“I try to focus on this piece of advice while playing because although everyone wants to win their match, ultimately sports is just about having fun and enjoying good times with your teammates.”
