Senior Izzy Grace is a four-year track and field athlete, participating in both indoor and outdoor track.
Izzy started her freshman year playing on the JV soccer team, and then in the winter she decided to go out for indoor track.
After the first couple of weeks of meets and practices, she found her love for running.
Izzy said, “I never thought that track would have such an impact on me, but it has really brought out my competitive drive.”
In the 2024 IAAM Outdoor Championship, Izzy secured first place in the 300m hurdles, setting a new meet record and earning All-Conference. Her victory contributed to the team’s third consecutive championship title, following with wins in the 2023 outdoor and 2024 indoor seasons.
During the 2023 IAAM Outdoor Championship, Izzy secured second place in the 300m hurdles, surpassing the previous meet record. Additionally, she was part of the 4x400m relay team that finished fourth.
In an earlier season, Izzy won the 300m hurdles at the IAAM Championships, leading a strong showing for John Carroll. She also competed in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays, demonstrating her versatility.
Izzy’s preferred event is the 300 hurdles. She has received several awards for this event; freshman and junior year, she received All-Conference, and sophomore year she received All-County. She also received All-Conference in indoor track her senior year.
Izzy’s consistent excellence in hurdles and relays has been important in JC’s track and field success. Her leadership and performances have helped the team achieve multiple championship titles and set new records.
Track Coach Robert Torres said, “She’s grown from being a one-dimensional athlete to a multi-event star on the team. She works hard and always wants to improve, and now, besides being our best 300m hurdler, she is currently our top 100m hurdler and one of our top sprinters and triple jumpers.”
He added, “We’ll definitely be relying on her in four events at championships.”
As she concluded her high school career, Izzy plans to attend the University of South Carolina while majoring in Marketing next year. She leaves behind a legacy and sets a high standard for future track athletes at JC.
