The Coach of the Year award goes to one coach in the IAAM who displays leadership and determination across wins and losses throughout the season.
This year John Carroll’s Badminton Head Coach Hannah Roy was announced as the 2025 IAAM Coach of the Year. She received her award at the start of the badminton tournament on Wednesday, April 30.
“I am grateful to be seen and appreciated by my fellow coaches. We are a good group who works well together and collaborates with one another, so I am happy for that. I hope my team is proud of me for being a role model for the program,” said Mrs. Roy.
Badminton playoffs were in the form of a three-day six round tournament that took place April 30 to March 2.
On the first day of the tournament, all conference players from all ten teams were announced along with the Coach of the Year award. JC placed tied for fourth overall in the tournament.
Prior to receiving the award at the tournament, Coach Roy was recognized by Athletic Director Seth Goldberg at the End-of-Year Athletics Celebration on April 29.
Mrs. Roy has been coaching the badminton team for six years. She is a dedicated coach and is always cheering her team on and coaching up her players between sets.
“My favorite part of coaching is getting the opportunity to work with different players who have different backgrounds in badminton. Some kids come from playing sports all their lives, and some are playing just to try something new. It is always great to see these students come together in a competitive team atmosphere and work together in a program that often goes unseen,” she added.
Mrs. Roy graduated from JC in 2013, and during her time at school she played badminton. When she returned as a teacher in 2019, she started coaching the sport. Mrs. Roy is looking forward to the next school year which marks the twentieth anniversary of badminton at JC.
Mrs. Roy is not only a badminton coach, but she is a teacher at the school. She teaches Spanish and Patriot Pathways.
Mrs. Roy is currently organizing the new Patriot Project which is beginning with the class of 2026.
Additionally, Mrs. Roy moderates the One Love and Pickleball clubs.
