This 2025 season the girls JV lacrosse team ended first in the IAAM JV “A” Conference. They went undefeated with a 6-0-2 record in season and an overall record of 8-0-4. They finished the season scoring 133 goals, only giving up 78 goals.
The team made sure to work together to be able to achieve success. Despite their hard games this season, they still managed to pull through and not lose a single game.
The John Carroll School’s athletics pride themselves on being a family, not just a team. On this team no matter what was going on around them, they always made sure that no players were down.
To ensure that every athlete was in a good mental space the team came up with “Mental Buddies.” This is where every player had one specific person on the team who they were there for all through the season.
Players thought that the Mental Buddies were a critical part of this season because their Mental Buddy had the same position as them, allowing them to always be there when they were needed. They also shared that it was refreshing to have someone who was there for them personally.
These Mental Buddies were not only used in games but in practices as well. Players knew that during every practice and in every drill, not only their Mental Buddy but countless players on their team and the coaching staff around them were there for them to help them be the best player they could be.
Highlights from the 2025 season were tying McDonough 11-11, continuing their undefeated streak. Another major event for the team was when they took on St. Timothy’s varsity team and finished the game with a win 20-14.
All the players on the team contributed something different to the team, and they all took away something different from the season.
Sophomore Alyssa Sturm said, “My favorite part was after the McDonogh game when we all realized that we were going to go undefeated.”
Even though some players thought the wins were their favorite part, others thought the team culture was the best part of their season.
Freshman Caroline Mackert said, “My favorite part of being a part of this team was how everyone was so welcoming and helpful. It was a fun experience to be able to play with different players at a higher level and learn from them. Everyone on the team made me feel comfortable, and it was easy to be able to play with the girls so quick.”
Head Coach Jamie Kirkner expressed that she was “extremely proud” of her team going undefeated this season.
“My favorite part was watching how far everyone has come and how they have come together as a team and never gave up on each other as well as how the team trusted the process,” said Coach Kirkner.
In all, this team got together one last time to celebrate their achievements and success that they had all throughout their season at their end of the year banquet on May 10.
As for next season Coach Kirkner said, “I look forward to keeping the success that we got this year and carrying it forward for seasons to come. I also look forward to continuing to grow women’s lacrosse at John Carroll.”
