The 2025 JC softball season had been a series of ups and downs, but it all paid off in the end as the team clinched a well-deserved win in the championship. The team dominated two consecutive IAAM “A” Conference championships, something that has not been done in the JC softball program’s history.
This season’s dynamic was very different from last year’s. Numerous starters had graduated, and this year, the team was left to rebuild the intensity and camaraderie that was shown in the 2024 season.
Rising to the occasion, JC softball had an overall 14 wins and only six losses. Five of those victories were earned in conference games; however, five losses were obtained in conference games as well. They ended the regular season in the third-seed position.
Catcher Juli Aragon commented, “JC has an incredible team, and the program we can build here is unlike any other. With anything thrown our way, time after time we have made it not only a team, but a family.”
Headed into the playoffs, JC softball unexpectedly performed at an incredibly high standard. The intensity, attitude, and toughness shown by every member of the team during playoff games was essential to the outcome of each game.
The quarter-final game was versus Mercy Magic, and JC softball came out on top with a score of 16-5.
The Mount De Sales Academy Sailors had a bye into the semi-final game due to having a higher rank in the division.
The Patriots had given up two of their conference losses to the Sailors earlier in the season. Odds were against the Patriots as they stepped into the semi-final game.
Playing on the Sailors’ home turf, the Patriots began scoring in the top of the first inning. After an incredibly played game both defensively and offensively, JC was victorious with a final score of 7-3.
Onto the championship, the girls played an incredibly close game against the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers. Similarly to their battle with the Sailors, they had also previously faced two losses against the Cavaliers.
The game began with a run scored by JC in the top of the first inning. Both teams went out energized and roaring with cheers. After an error from the Patriots in the bottom of the first, the Cavaliers tied the game at one in the bottom of the first inning.
The game remained close with a 1-1 score throughout much of the game. With the need for extra innings, the Patriots grew impatient and desired the big win more than anything. In the eighth inning the Patriots scored six runs and held on as the Cavaliers scored four.
The last out of the game was obtained by catcher Juli Aragon when she caught a runner stealing second base in a pickoff play.
Juli added, “It felt amazing to win back-to-back, especially when we were seen as the underdog this year, and we were able to have an amazing comeback.”
