Senior Profile: Joey Hoff

To those who don’t know him, he is simply a man. To those that know of him, he is just a myth. To those who actually know him, he is a legend. The man, the myth, the legend. Joey Hoff.

Joey Hoff was the Editor in Chief of The Patriot this year. In his junior year, Hoff was a Managing Editor, the stepping stone to executive positions senior year.

Hoff was a key contributor to The Patriot over the past two years, creating an example for all to follow. Hoff established the “Week in Pictures” online feature and ran it in his junior year. “That’s the first thing I always check out on the site,” Hoff said.

With Hoff at the helm, The Patriot was extremely successful. They received the CSPA Gold Crown award for the online paper, the most prestigious award given by CSPA. Hoff will not be easy to replace, but he is confident of their chances next year.

’The Patriot will do great. We’ve got a great group of rising seniors and pretty enthusiastic group of juniors joining the staff next year,” Hoff said.

Next year, Hoff will attend the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. “It had everything I wanted: perfect size, perfect campus, and perfect location,” Hoff said.

Because of his experience on the paper, Hoff recommends the Intro to Journalism class to all. “It really taught me how to write clearly and concisely. I’d recommend it for anyone that likes to have fun,” Hoff said.

Looking back, Hoff enjoyed his time immensely. “I’m going to miss the fun times in Journalism, especially layout. But I’m also going to miss the people from all across JC,” Hoff said.

Henry Shepard is a reporter for The Patriot and jcpatriot.com.
