Angela DeCarlo, Stories Chief

On Jan. 28, members of the Spanish Exchange had an excursion in Toledo. The students had been exploring Toledo on their own during each school day, but this was their first excursion into the city as a group.

The group visited the Cathedral of Toledo, the Santo Tomé Church, the Santa María la Blanca, and the original Infantes school.

No pictures were allowed to take pictures in the Santo Tomé Church. It holds painting “Entierro del Conde de Orgáz,” by El Greco. The name of the painting translates to “The Burial of the Count of Orgáz,” which El Greco was commissioned to paint in memory of the Count almost 200 years after his death. The painting displays the local legend that Saints Stephen and Augustine came down from heaven to bury him.

The Spanish Exchange is held with Colegio Nuestra Señora de los Infantes, which was founded over 455 years ago. The original school was restored and opened to the public this year. It was originally an all-boys choir school.

Angela DeCarlo is the Stories Chief for The Patriot and jcpatriot.com.
