New Assistant Dean added this school year

Assistant Dean of Students Gunnar Waldt has joined the John Carroll staff. This position was announced in the first Weekly Update.
Mr. Waldt’s new role at JC will be “to help the current Deans of Students with a large majority of activities. It’s everything from presence in the hallways to lunch duties, locker room checks, and car checks. He’s also going to be helping with Mr. Proud in the Learning Commons,” said Assistant Principal Jake Hollin.
Dean of Students Christina Presberry said that he will also be “checking on the well-being of the students to make sure that everything is okay.”
An additional dean was necessary “to ease myself and Mr. Modeste’s workload because we’re not only dealing with incidents that are in Veracross that are disciplinary. We also handle attendance, and that’s a lot because attendance is a daily thing that we have to keep up with,” said Ms. Presberry.
Mr. Waldt will be helping teachers along with the deans. Mr. Hollin said, “The main goal was to alleviate some things that we asked teachers so that they can focus more on teaching. Lunch duties, for example, we used to have teachers do it. Now teachers aren’t doing it.”
“It’s getting everyone to do what they should be doing so that our counselors aren’t covering for Mr. Proud when he’s not there and they can be available for our students,” said Mr. Hollin.
Mr. Waldt is coming to JC with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications from Bryant University and will also be coaching the varsity boys lacrosse team.
“He comes from a professional standpoint. He actually owns his own company and has done coaching in the past, as well as worked in university settings,” said Mr. Hollin.
