‘The Baltimore Sun’ hosts the Best of Harford awards every year, giving recognition to Harford County’s best schools, businesses, restaurants, and more. Voting was promoted to all Harford County residents, and more than 900,000 votes were cast this year.

Voting for the Best of Harford awards was completed online on the Baltimore Sun’s website. The polls opened in November, and in late February, an account representative with the Baltimore Sun notified Director of Marketing and Communications Kathy Walsh about The John Carroll School’s win as Harford County’s Best Private School.
Mrs. Walsh said, “[The award] is a tremendous honor, especially since anyone in Harford County can cast a vote. We are so grateful to our wonderful Patriot family who step up every year to vote for JC.”
Mrs. Walsh believes there are many factors that contributed to JC’s win. “I think the fact that JC students have continued to thrive throughout the pandemic is a huge part of it. With enrollment continuing to climb, ongoing curricular enhancements, engaged students and teachers, and the support of donors who support all of those things, plus renovations and enhancements to facilities, John Carroll has had tremendous momentum over the past several years. It’s been exciting to be a part of.”
This is the fourth year in a row that JC has achieved this honor. “I think we just keep getting better every year, so I am hopeful we will hold this title for years to come. Our community should be on the lookout for the link we send out when voting opens, and vote as often as they can to help us keep the title,” said Mrs. Walsh.
On the Baltimore Sun’s website, an article by Mike Klingaman and Mary Carole McCauley titled “Best of Harford County 2022” details the winners and Honorable Mentions of the 78 awards.
The Honorable Mentions for Best Private School were St. Margaret School, The Highlands School, and Harford Day School. The John Carroll Ballet Academy won an Honorable Mention in the category of dance lessons. Additionally, a JC student led non-profit, Volun-Teen Leo, won an Honorable Mention in the charity/non-profit category.
