Completely Lost: Episode 13

Lost Episode 13: The Recruit

The Smoke Monster

Joey: I still can’t trust the Smoke Monster. His claims that he’s trying to help Jack and the rest of the members of flight 815 are absolutely bogus.

Allison: He really seems to have a hidden agenda.

Joey: His claims about being able to leave the island after Jacob’s death seem just as ridiculous. Any fan of Lost knows that getting off the island is never that easy.

Why the Smoke Monster Chose Locke

Joey: I loved when the Smoke Monster referred to Locke as a “sucker.” Even though Locke seemed like the only sucker when he was alive, so many more survivors, including Jack and Hugo, now see something powerful and even attractive in the island. It seems like the candidates are becoming suckers too.

Allison: It just seems like since the introduction of the Smoke Monster, people are just taken over by his appeal.

“Show Them What We’re Capable of”

Joey: Zoe, Widmore’s crazy follower, tried to gain an upper hand this week when she told Widmore’s group to fire at the flight 815 survivors. At least the Smoke Monster isn’t afraid of her.

Allison: She’s a much creepier version of Liz Lemon.

Joey: She even has Lemon’s glasses. If only Zoe had her personality.

Desmond the Connector

Joey: In the flash sideways world, Desmond has certainly changed his outlook on life since his meeting with Widmore’s son in Episode 11. I feel like Desmond has become extremely fixated on this feeling that he is somehow connected to the people on the flight. I’ve noticed that he’s been working to bring everyone on the flight together, and everything seems to be making sense. Here’s my idea: Desmond brought Hugo and Libby together, and Desmond ran over Locke so that he could be operated on by Jack. It just happened that the Kwons were on their way to the hospital. Desmond seems to be working as this great connector. The island has mysterious powers, even when the characters have no idea that the island exists.

Sayid the Follower

Joey: Sayid hints that he’s following the Smoke Monster because he has nothing left to live for after he lost his true love. That sounds like bologna.

Allison: The Smoke Monster brought him back to life, so maybe there’s a portion of the monster within him.

Joey: That sounds more like it. Each episode, it seems like the Smoke Monster displays more and more power. This week, it was his twisted control over Sayid.
Sun and Jin

Joey: Amidst the chaos of the island, there’s finally a happy point this season. Jin and Sun were finally reunited. However, I was still a bit nervous when they started running towards each other. Even though Zoe asked a worker to turn off the electromagnetic fences, I was still expecting one of the Kwons to be zapped by the fence. It’s twisted, but there are no rules on the island. When the Kwons survived, I couldn’t believe that there could actually be such an uplifting moment in “Lost.”
“You’re with me now”

Joey: The Smoke Monsters’ final words were not exactly reassuring. When the Smoke Monster made an effort to save Jack first, I knew that something was fishy. I’m guessing that the Smoke Monster has a use for Jack. Fortunately, Jack was practically unconscious, or else he would have been just as freaked out by the final words of the episode.
