Mid-quarter grades no longer determine eligibility

Mid-quarter+grades+no+longer+determine+eligibility

In contrast to previous years, extracurricular eligibility will not be determined by mid-quarter grades. Instead, eligibility will be determined at the end of every quarter. A letter from Principal Tom Durkin was emailed to parents earlier today notifying them of the change.

At mid-quarters, students who are failing two or more classes will be placed on Academic Review and assigned to a mandatory Study Hall period after school. According to the letter, this Study Hall will be organized by Dean of Student Services Larry Hensley’s office and will take place from 2:50 to 3:30 p.m. While participation is mandatory, students will still be able to participate in their athletic teams or clubs after they attend.

If students are still failing two or more classes at the end of the quarter, however, they will be ineligible to participate in any team or club until the next mid-quarter. During this time, the student will still have to attend Study Hall after school.

As stated in the letter, Durkin hopes “to help students restore their grades and continue their participation in numerous extracurricular activities.”

This article will be updated as more information on the subject of ineligibility is collected.
