“Miracle,” the unbelievable true story of America’s strength in the Olympic games is a worthy watch this winter season. The story starts out as Herb Brooks, played by Kurt Russell, is hired as the head coach for the Men’s 1980 Olympic Hockey Team.

Brooks walks into a very young team, and a lot of the players aren’t taking the game seriously. They are not practicing like they are about to go to the Olympics. Brooks doesn’t have a lot of experienced players, and he has to build up this team to have a chance against the Soviet Union’s team.
Brooks has to create a game-winning team with a bunch of players who mostly are only there for their own personal gain.
He brings selfish players together and throughout the preparation for the Olympics, the players start to work as a unit and as a team.
This new team is set to go up against the almost unbeatable Soviet Union team. The Soviet Union, at this time for men’s Olympic hockey, had won the gold medal in four consecutive Olympic games before 1980.
The Soviet Union had an extraordinary hockey team, and not a lot of people believed that the American team could pull through. The Americans were the complete underdogs in this specific part of the Olympics.
The Americans face off against Finland and the Soviet Union in the medal round at Lake Placid.
Starring Kurt Russell as Herb Brooks, Eddie Cahill as Jim Craig, and Michael Mantenuto as Jack O’Callahan. This 2004 movie of the “Miracle on Ice” is a great movie this winter to watch with family.
Based on a true story, all of the characters in the movie are based on the actual players from the 1980 team. After the 1980 Olympic games, 13 out of the 20 players on the team went on to play in the National Hockey League although Captain Mike Eruzione never played another game after Lake Placid.
Buzz Schneider, a player on the actual 1980 team, is portrayed in the movie by his 21-year-old real-life son Billy Schneider.
