Meghan Kerr, Perspectives Editor

After a winter full of clouds and rain, many of us are impatiently waiting to see the trees begin to bloom, feel the weather begin to heat up, and the sun begin to shine.

The beauty of spring can be seen in all its glory by visiting the cherry blossom trees in Washington, D.C.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is being held this year from March 20-April 16. The event allows visitors to see the iconic pink cherry blossom trees along with a variety of activities. The Festival begins with an opening ceremony with multiple Japanese performers.

It also includes other events such as the “PetalPalooza,” “Pink Tie Party,” the “Blossom Kite Festival,” and a Cherry Blossom Parade. The Festival has an activity for everyone. Each event has delicious food and drink and the “PetalPalooza” includes a cherry blossom themed firework show. The Cherry Blossom Parade peaks the interest of children with special guests Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Visiting the festival allows for not only a fun experience full of unique activities and performances, but it also allows for education about Japanese-American culture through the various Japanese performances and collaborations with the Japan Foundation.

If you are looking for a fun, unique, and educational experience this spring, check out the cherry blossoms.
