This year’s spring musical is ‘Legally Blonde.’ It will be taking place this weekend beginning Friday, March 25 at 7:00 pm. Additional performances will be March 26 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and March 27 at 2:00 pm.

In Legally Blonde, “Harvard’s beloved blonde takes the stage by pink storm in this fun, upbeat story of self-discovery. Based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde: The Musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.”
Show Director Larry Hensley chose to do Legally Blonde because he wanted to pick a show that would be fun and that students would want to participate in.
Mr. Hensley added, “People can recognize it, and audience members are eager to come see something familiar.” He also mentioned the show is “big and brings lots of performing opportunities.”
Students have been rehearsing every day after school and continue to add more and more components to the show as they prepare for the musical. Although everyone is excited to perform, there is a lot to do to prepare for the musical, and performers have busy schedules.
Junior Reagan McComas, who is playing the character of Emmett Forest, said “My biggest hurdle is definitely balancing my school work and grades as well as memorizing, learning and perfecting my part.”
Legally Blonde is also the last-ever musical at John Carroll that members of the Class of 2022 get to perform. Senior Gabby Spencer, who plays Paulette Buonofuonte, said, “This show is going to be different because it’s my very last musical theater performance. I don’t think I’m going to continue acting in college which makes this performance insanely bittersweet. I also want to make this one count, I want it to be extra memorable for myself and the cast, but also the audience. I want to make Mr. Hensley and Mrs. Parrish proud of me and the decision they made.”
Mr. Hensley and lots of other cast members are most looking forward to going back to a normal theatre experience beyond the COVID guidelines. Everything is back, including a full pit, a full audience access to seats, and a standard performance.
The theatre department is ready to put on their best performance and are excited for everyone to be back.
