Cookies make for very popular desserts around the holidays. However, there are some cookies that have withstood the test of time, making them truly iconic. Here is a list of one staff member’s favorite holiday cookies, ranked.

Sugar Cookies: Sugar cookies are simply unmatched. Using cookie cut-outs to make different shapes with the dough adds another layer of fun to these cookies. If you want to elevate your sugar cookies to the next level, top them with icing and tons of sprinkles.

Snickerdoodles: One of the most underrated cookies. A soft, chewy, and flavorful dessert. The cinnamon sugar on these cookies adds a nice crunch.

Peanut Butter Blossoms: Peanut butter and chocolate is the perfect combination. This cookie tastes the best at a certain, specific time: right when they come out of the oven. Then, the cookie is soft, and the Hershey Kiss on top will melt in your mouth. The sugar on the outside of the cookie adds even more sweetness.

Chocolate Crinkles: The perfect cookie for all chocolate lovers. What really makes this cookie outstanding is the powdered sugar that covers it. These taste like warm, chocolate cake when fresh.

Classic Chocolate Chip: You can never go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie. The key to a great chocolate chip cookie is the ratio of cookie to chocolate chips; there should never be too many chocolate chips. These are best served with a cold glass of milk.

Shortbread Cookies: These cookies have a very simple recipe, but they pack spectacular flavor. A great shortbread cookie can be described as one word: buttery. They also serve as a wonderful pairing with a warm beverage like a hot chocolate or coffee.

Gingerbread Cookies: One of the more flavorful holiday cookies, a great mix of spice and sweetness. However, making gingerbread houses is more fun than eating them.

Oatmeal Cookies: A very diverse cookie. You can incorporate raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts in these to add an extra kick. They are easy to bake and a constant crowd-pleaser.
