Senior Kishan Patel is the Online Editor in Chief for The Patriot and jcpatriot.com. This is his second year on staff and his third year taking journalism. He was previously a Sports Editor. Patel is the president of the Student Affairs Council.  He is a member of three varsity sports: football, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. When Patel isn’t walking through the hallways from after school meetings to practice or school events, you’ll find him at the Swaminarayan temple or awake at unreasonable hours of the night. If anybody wonders what the thing on his forehead is, it’s a tilak chandlo representing his religion, Swaminarayan sect of Hinduism. Kishan Patel can be reached for comments at [email protected].

AIMS recently questioned the legitimacy and effectiveness of Cyber Days, which require students to do schoolwork on days when inclement weather has closed schools. Administrators have decided to continue with Cyber Days, but are also adding three snow days to the calendar next year.

The Maryland Department of Education has suggested that all schools implement gender-neutral, one color graduation gowns for both sexes in order to create a more accepting environment for transgender or non-gender conforming students. Howard County Public Schools and Aberdeen High School have implemented the change, and other schools have considered it.

Outside of all the Harford County Sheriffs Department precincts is a sign that displays the current number of overdoses and deaths by heroin in hopes of raising awareness of the epidemic. As on April 8, 2016, there have been 60 overdoses and 8 deaths.
